≡ More Weird Stuff by Dave
If The Unbelievale Origin of Superspiff and the Toothpick Kid is your first exposure to my writing, here’s some of my other stories that might interest you. It’s not all capes and spandex, though. I also write dark fantasy, SF, and horror, and sometimes all of them at the same time. Here’s some of the other stuff I’ve done that’s either published, coming soon, or in the works
Published:
“Saint Darwin’s Spirituals” (Rated R for violence and sex, including ghostgasms)
Ghost inspectors and golems patrol the streets of Whitechapel. Prostitutes turn tricks for the fever-dream flesh lusts of the spiritual. And the statue of Saint Darwin, the scientist who broke the barrier between the natural and the supernatural, oversees it all. Now a disciple of Darwin — a woman of skin and bone — follows a trail of blood and corpses over cobblestone streets, hoping to unravel the devestating mystery of her own life.
This story was originally simultaneously published by Variant Frequencies and Murky Depths #4.
“God-Shaped Box” (Rated PG for adult themes, including the capture of God)
“I didn’t kill God; we should clear that up right away. I just captured him and put him in a little box.”
Originally published in Hub Magazine.
“Last Respects” (Rated R for violence and communion)
“I’ve read stories about the sorrows immortals suffered because of how much they had seen over their long lives. What rubbish. I would trade my mortality for their immortality in a heartbeat if it meant another day with Catherine.
A scream rang out from downstairs. I smiled when I heard applause, my grandchildren now being praised by their mother as the scream faded to a whimper and the giggles were replaced by slurping sounds.”
Originally published in Pseudopod (and narrated by Future Dark Overlord Scott Sigler (!)). Reprinted in Apex Online.
Forthcoming:
Puritan Noir: Love Burns (short story)
In the Works:
Fallen Horizon (novel)
